online learning students complete interactive courses...
Getting Started with Audio Enhanced Learning
To use the Audio Enhanced Learning feature of PAC curriculum, there are three things you will need: (1) A digital PDF version of a PAC course, (2) text-to-speech
software, (3) a desktop, laptop, tablet, or smartphone. In order to get the digital curriculum files on your tablet or smartphone, we recommend that you first install them
to a desktop or laptop computer and then transfer them via the USB cable that came with your tablet or smartphone.
Note: The digital Audio Enhanced Learning versions of PAC curriculum can be downloaded and used without the text-to-speech software for
students who would prefer PAC curriculum in a digital format, but do not necessarily want or need the text read aloud.
Purchase the digital version of your desired course via the PAC Store.
After purchasing the digital download, you will receive an email with a download link.
Click the download link. You will be directed to a webpage where a dialogue box will prompt you to save your download. Click "Save."
Save your download to a location that will be easy to find (for example, "Documents").
The download will requre several minutes to complete, depending on your internet speed. Once the download is complete, navigate to the location in which you saved the file on your computer.
You will notice that the downloaded file is in a zipped format. Simply right click on the file and select "Extract." Follow the onscreen instructions to unzip the
file. (This is not necessary for Apple Computers.)
You should now be able to view each individual chapter.
Step 2: Download Text-to-Speech Software
Download a text-too-speech software of your choice. There are several to choose from, some being free. We recommned Natural Reader Personal Version for desktops and laptops and the app ezPDF reader for Apple and Android smartphones and tablets. It is important that the text-to-speech software is able to
read PDF documents.
Once you have selected a text-to-speech software, follow the instructions on the providers website to purchase and/or install the software.
After you have installed your text-to-speech software, open the software.
Step 3: Importing PAC Digital Downloads into Text-to-Speech Software
The process for opening your PAC digital download within the text-to-speech software will vary depending on which text-to-speech software you choose. For the purpose of
this tutorial, we will use Natrual Reader. The process should be similar for your text-to-speech sofware.
With Natural Reader open, Click the Add New button in the top left corner.
A new window will pop up asking you to select the format of text you wish to import. Click the first option, Open (Existing Files).
A window will appear for you to select the file you wish to import. Navigate to the location in which you saved your PAC digital download curriculum. Select a
PDF file to import it into Natural Reader (I.E. World History Chapter 1 Text.pdf) and click the Open button.
Once you have imported the digital curriculum, you should be able to see it within Natural Reader. Click the Play button at the top of the Natural
Reader window to begin listening to the text as it is read aloud. You can also highlight a portion of text with your mouse and click the Play button to
read a specific area of text.
Done! You should now be able to use Natural Reader or other text-to-speech software to listen to PAC curriculum being read aloud. If you have question or need
assistance, please contact us.
